News & Notes – November

News and Notes November 2020

Once in a blue moon, Oct 31, well that is tonight, I will get the next News and Notes out on time at the first of the month before all of the branch meetings.

Square, the online payment system is working for our sales of items in the office as it worked for the online auction.

I think it was 2014 when I was in Ottawa for November 11 and a meeting of FWIC when we all attended the service at the War Memorial. It was a moving ceremony so moving that the windows in the facing buildings shook when the 21 gun salute went off. Marie Kenny was president at the time and she laid a wreath on our behalf. Joan Holthe was also at that service.

The FWIC convention that was re-sheduled for June in St John, is running into some problems. The university where it was going to be held has given notice that they are shutting down due to COVID so the committee organizing it is looking for a new venue but there has been some communication from members asking for a virtual meeting instead because of the COVID. What do you think? Were you planning on attending in person? Would you attend a virtual meeting?

ps…as a save the date…our FWIC President Joan Holte and President Elect Margaret Bly are planning a Remembrance Day Service via Zoom for November 10th. Info to come asap…but please plan now to save the date if you can.

The FWIC newsletter is out and is a good read.

Keep an eye on our web page for news about the branches.

We are working on the next edition of Home and Country. All branches are encouraged to send in information and pictures to the web page and Home and Country. We need to share our stories.

Speaking of stories…Linda Toews is looking for stories on how COVID has affected your life.

Argyle Branch sent $400 to ACWW Area Canada which they earned with Women Walk the World. The branch has walked every year since 2012 and this was the largest amount collected so far. As well as collecting funds for ACWW it creates awareness for our organization.

I had a nice get well card from Langdon Branch. When I was in Strathmore with my daughter keeping tabs on me and my broken ankle, I called a member to see if we could meet for a tea. She called me back after I got home and learned of my foolish accident. I am almost all mended.

The next council meeting is Nov. 30 via Google Meet.

Have a great month. Remember to send your branch secretary reports to the Vice President Linda Toews email lindat4awi@gmail.com
