News and Notes – March 2021

It is snowing a bit today (Feb 26) so I am thinking that March may come in like a lion and out like a lamb.  I am so ready for spring with hopes for a new beginning of all things bright and beautiful.

There were 227 participants on the WI Celebrates cross Canada event on the internet.  Several from the United Kingdom and the World President from South Africa were on the call.  Internet gatherings will probably be a lasting benefit from the pandemic just as a supplement I hope to in person meetings.

ACWW President Magdie de Kock reported that her first “Tea” had 20,000 views worldwide which meant that it reached about the audience of 3 world conferences.  There were not that many on the original viewing but many more shared in the recorded version.  I viewed the first on later as a recorded but I was up and ready at 7:30 AM to share in the second one on Feb 23.  The next “Tea with the World President” is in March.  If you have a computer you are welcome to join.

The WI Wanderers in England celebrated Adelaide’s birthday on Feb. 27 and they extended an invitation to all to attend virtually.  That is at 7 AM our time to join in the party that is taking place at 2 in the afternoon in England.

FWIC has been asking us, AWI, for a nomination for president-elect.  Do you have any suggestions?  There used to be a stipulation that candidates had to have served on the Federated Board but that has been dropped.  The nomination has to be in by March 31.  Provincial Council meets next on March 29th

We need some help to find a Director for District 2.  I know that there are lots of talented members in the district.  Our meetings are held on the internet (participation by phone also works) about every 6 weeks so the time commitment is considerably less than it used to be.  Help is available to get a non techie enabled.

Some branches have sent additional money in with their registrations.  This is appreciated ever so much.

Save the dates!  FWIC is holding virtual Senior Life Hacks events open to everyone.  Each province was asked to contribute an event as part of the FWIC commitment to the grant.  Thanks to our talented Linda Toews Alberta’s part will be a session on painting a landscape picture in acrylics on March 21.  Supplies needed are: canvas, brushes, acrylic paints. All events will be held at 12 noon.  March Life Hacks Sessions:   March 6 is making your Own Kokedama.  March 13 is Repurposing Heirlooms.  March, 21 is Acrylic Painting. The first 40 Canadian participants will receive a gift certificate to purchase supplies. To register for any of these events email info@fwic.ca

Ideas welcome! Do you have an idea for a project that we can all do?   Do you have ideas for something that needs changing and could be a resolution?  Do you have an idea for a fundraiser?   See we really need your ideas.
