Your Provincial Council met.

The second meeting by Skype was held Nov. 18.  This no cost convenient way of meeting is going quite well.  We are all still learning but isn’t that what WI is all about.

It was decided to offer Associate Members a deal on a three year membership.  Three years for $110.   Annual membership is $40.  An associate member is one who does not have a branch near by.  Another change recently is that the associate member is eligible to hold office at any level and can enter handicraft at the conventions.

If we can really get things going maybe there will be an internet branch for the associate members.

AWI Tartan in crochet.

The Alberta Women’s Institute tartan is a registered tartan.  Doreen Kelley on Golden. BC converted a sample of fabric to a crochet pattern and demonstrated the weaving to members of Argyle Branch in Alliance.  She also did a place mat on plastic canvas. In the background are blankets that she made in the Okanagan tartan, Nova Scotia tartan and the dress Stewart.001

Summer recess is over. Branches are meeting again.

Echo Hill Branch met in a members home where they learned that a long drought is possible for the prairies.

Heather Brae Branch has a lunch meeting at Smitty’s restaurant in Camrose.

The Lavoy Branch up at Vegerville had a July meeting after a pot luck lunch.  They are thinking of disbanding although they have 9 members enrolled.

Darwell and Duffield Branches meet for lunch once a month at different locations.

It looks like Valhalla Busy Bees have a chili cook off.  They also have an annual fall supper.  Two of their members made a display for the Communities in Bloom day.

Ella Jane Branch in the Brooks/Cessford area put in 206 volunteer hours mostly catering for a wedding supper and memorial lunch. They have 19 members.

Argyle Branch at Alliance had a lively discussion on health issues at the Sept. meeting.

Lougheed Branch, the branch with all the young members, met to make freezer meals.  This branch meets on Sunday afternoon and brings the kids.  Members take turns planning and hosting a program/meeting.

August Mystery Trip

First stop was the orchard.

Next it was off to the wine tasting.

007Members of Argyle Branch and friends went on the annual mystery trip in August.  The local winery, Fireside Winery near Stettler was a new find for most of the group.

From there we went to Donalda for lunch and then the Lamp Museum and then the Battle River Crossing Resort and finished with a tour of the railway station part of the museum that just opened in Alliance.  These were all within 70 miles but most of the ladies had never been there.  We were tourists in our own backyard.

Five members from Alberta are attending the Area Canada Conference of ACWW, Associated Country Women of the World, in Pembroke Ontario.

Here are the gals to talk to to get connected with a pen pal, Deborah Reardon of England and Judy Parks of Nova Scotia on the left side.  The couple on the right are the Canadian gals who co-ordinate the Friendship/hopiatilty program which will find you a bed and a breakfast or just a visit with another WI member all across Canada.DSCN0605.JPG

Does your town have a parade for July 1?

Does your branch enter a float in the parade?

We really have to get our name out there and show the world that we are still very much here.

At the FWIC Convention in Winnipeg

President Linda Hoy cuts the cake and a delicious cake it was.  It was served at the Presidents reception held after the opening ceremonies on Thursday evening.
